SUMMARY

Reporting to the Engineering Manager, the Sr. Controls Technician will be responsible for designing and developing all aspects of electrical control systems, equipment, and machinery. The Controls Technician will work with new technologies and control systems and will be involved in a wide number of projects. This person will also be responsible for the installation and programming support of PLCs and software. As needed, the Controls Technician is responsible for performing mechanical and electrical maintenance on production, packaging, and warehouse equipment.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Plans and performs work requiring electronic and mechanical theories and principles and writing specifications.
  • Supports the installation of electrical equipment including PLC's, sensors, instrumentation, and drives.
  • Perform electrical repairs and troubleshoot for the following: PLC Controls, AC & DC motor controls, solid state motor controls, advance circuits, and grounding, interpret diagrams and test equipment.
  • Installs, services, maintains, inspects, tests, repairs, replaces, disassembles, adjusts, and cleans electrical and related equipment and relays used to protect and control functions of equipment such as, but not limited to, circuit breakers, transformers, capacitors, telemetry, automatic switches, supervisory control devices, and indicating and recording instruments, using hand tools.
  • Utilize CMMS system and ensure work orders are complete and corrective maintenance issues are logged in the system.
  • Read schematics, drawings, and manuals to establish facts and draw valid conclusions.
  • Install new electrical and mechanical equipment as directed.
  • Support continuous improvement projects and maintain a safe working environment.

QUALIFICATIONS (TECHNICAL SKILL REQUIREMENTS)

  • 2 Year Technical Degree in an Electrical/ Industrial/ Technical capacity AND at least 5 years of Electrical/Controls/ PLC/ Industrial Automation support – OR – more than 10 years of hands on Electrical / Controls/ PLCs/ Industrial Automation support.
  • Electrical; 110 – 480V, AC & DC control, wiring & ladder diagrams, PLC/Inverter programming, trouble shooting.
  • PLC programming, HMI programming, Ethernet network configuration, PID loop tuning (level, pressure, temperature, flow), motor and drive configuration and troubleshooting.
  • General understanding of electrical engineering.
  • Ability to interpret electrical wiring diagrams and drawings.
  • Ability to troubleshoot, make recommendations, and prioritize system improvements.
  • Knowledge of test equipment, electromechanical and solid-state relays, meters, computers, communications equipment, and proper wiring methods and practices.
  • Demonstrated proper knowledge of safe testing, maintenance, and repair techniques.

Work Environment and Job Physical Demands

These conditions are common to maintenance employees.

  • Exposure to moving mechanical parts.
  • Exposure to wet and/or humid conditions and electrical shock.
  • Exposure to extreme hot conditions on such equipment as operating fryers and extreme cold conditions such as blast spiral freezers.
  • Exposure to noise, dust, fumes, lubricants, solvents, toxic or caustic chemicals.
  • Standing and walking for entire shift on slippery floors.
  • Frequent pushing, pulling, twisting, turning, stooping and bending.
  • Repetitive forearm, wrist and hand movements and rotation.
  • Working in close proximity to equipment and other employees.
  • Frequently lifting of up to 50 pounds.
